Principles

No Embalming

Bodies are well cared for with proper cooling and natural products before burial. The products are biodegradable, whereas embalming fluids are toxic for the earth.

Earth Burial

Using biodegradable caskets or shrouds, bodies are buried three feet down. This permits natural decomposition and nourishes the earth.

Ecological Restoration

Green burials minimize environmental impact, have a very low carbon footprint, and aid in the restoration and protection of natural habitats.

Communal Memorials

Names are engraved on natural stone or wood and placed centrally to identify those buried in the area. The green burial site as a whole becomes a living memorial to the persons interred there.

Land Use

Minimal infrastructure optimizes land use. The natural surroundings encourage its use for rituals and celebrations, as well as for respectful enjoyment by the community.

L’enterrement naturel
